As Washington DC’s official convention and sports authority, Events DC owns and manages some of the most celebrated and popular venues in the city. In addition, they also create and promote premier cultural activities and drive economic growth in the community. But awareness of the full Events DC story needed to be raised and told effectively in an informational web-based site so event planners, attendees and visitors would all benefit.
Event planners were important but millennials and young DC residents were our core target audience. We learned these hardworking individuals come to DC to make an impact and want to be aware of everything going on in the city. To communicate Events DC’s role in bringing the city to life through events and community engagement, we needed to tell their story through information architecture, design and functionality. We started with an impactful home page design that promotes Events DC, while creating clear, visitor-friendly avenues for information. We then created mini-sites for each venue and housed them under the overall brand with standardized navigation to create consistency. Our design team was inspired by the capital’s masterful planning and utilized graphics of hard edges and circles to create a modern, timeless aesthetic. Dramatic imagery, video, virtual tours provided real-time information that moves, excites and engages.
The Events DC site launched in December 2020. It went live with full integration with its backend event planning and ticketing systems. The site incorporated streamlined content for an easier, more user-friendly experience and featured interactive maps, customer support tools plus social media integration. Virtual tours and floorplans were in place to allow event planners to take simulated tours of Events DC’s venues and begin their planning process remotely.
